12.25.2006 Christmas Grackle -- SOLD OUT!
The Red Room, San Antonio, Texas
This first night of our two night stand at the Red Room was wonderful. The show sold out and we were surrounded by beautiful friends. The night unfurled in a relatively chaotic fashion. Buttercup did a loose and long set of songs, with many instrument changes, following no script. We began with a Christmas carol and then started softly with a set of wintry originals: Frost Heaves, Nov. 1., Anti-Antarctica and Twin Cities. Marcus Rubio joined us on the violin and the saw, and helped us make a joyful noise. We exchanged presents, got our Mr. T coloring books, and finished with the most extended version of the Talking Head's Psycho Killer that we've ever played. Buttercup became trapped in the song, in the way that we always yearn for: totally lost, totally abandoned.
Please see the following nights' synopsis for a full report on the Red Room, and for our special thanks.
Buttercup performs a Christmas Grackle. This will be an intimate, warm celebration of the close of the year. Tonight will be the first performance of our two night stand at the Red Room. We are limiting the number of tickets to 45 per night. This will ensure that the comfy Red Room will not be oversold and overcrowded. We guarantee that everyone will get an excellent seat. It will be a show full of our favorite holiday things: food, wine, friends and songs, beautiful sing-songy songs.
The Red Room will give Buttercup the chance to play a true listening room, where the only distraction is the occaisonal train. Our last performance at the Red Room was one of our very best, and we hope for this kind of spontaneous magic, once again.
